Airville Plantation

Approached through ivy-covered gates, down a lane bordered by tall cedar and dogwood trees, stands Airville Plantation. Slip back in time as you sit on the veranda and watch the sunset over 400 acres of gardens, meadow and woodland. In the library, read or reflect before a blazing fire. The parlor beckons for afternoon tea accompanied by a fresh baked sweet. In summer, relax by the pool or take a long walk down a wooded trail. If your taste runs to the sea, try fishing from our pier on the Mobjack Bay or arrive by boat and we'll greet you at the water's edge.

Built by John Dixon Sr., in 1756, the original two-story home had a gambrel roof, typical of the Colonial period. In the early 19th century, Thomas Smith, a local merchant and delegate to the Virginia Legislature bought Airville. He erected a large, three story addition in the Federal style, including a towering spiral staircase that begins in the front entrance hall and continues to the third floor.
Behind the main house sit a row of dependencies; a lumber house, smoke house, round dairy and the Overseer's Cottage, which is now being used as a guest suite.

Breakfasts are a special treat filled with a varity of possibilities. Freshly ground coffee, English tea, home baked breads and muffins to accompany a gourmet main dish are only some of the examples.
Airville maintains its own orchards and vegetable gardens, so full breakfasts include homemade jams, jellies, preserves and in season, fresh fruits and vegetables.
