Retreat to the quiet splendor of the Shenandoah Valley with a stay at "Lackawanna", an historic six bedroom brick Italianate style home built in 1869. Close to Skyline Drive and located just above the shore line of the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Built by Dorastus Cone, owner of the Riverton Mills, for his family and named "Lackawanna" (American Indian for "meeting of waters) by Mr. Cone. Lackawanna is a fine example of this period's architecture now restored to it's original elegance.

Spend a quiet lazy summer afternoon or evening in a rocking chair on our forty foot front porch overlooking the Shenandoah River. Enjoy walking in our garden areas or sitting in the yard with a good book. A short walk will bring you to the shore line where you can go canoeing or to the confluence of the North and South forks of the Shenandoah River. A pair of binoculars will give you a close up of our varied species of local birds.

While at the confluence of the two rivers if you look downstream you may see a freight train on one of Norfolk Southern Railroad's main lines. The Shenandoah River is famous for its quality fishing. Fishing licenses are available in town.

The Rose Room faces the south and like our other rooms has a queen size bed, private bath and central air-conditioning. With only three guest rooms, we are able to give you very personalized service, always trying to accommodate your wishes.

An elegant breakfast with your choice of menu is served in our dining room with floor to ceiling windows at a time suited to you.
