During your stay at the Magnolia House, you will experience American history firsthand by living in a home that was constructed in the 1880's for William Walker Scott, a harbor pilot and businessman. Under stately magnolia trees, this structure is a wonderful example of Queen Anne style Late Victorian architecture.

Have a look and catch the feel of our unique style. You will notice the attention to detail that makes this bed and breakfast special---from the comfortable furnishings to the richly restored interior finishes. The Magnolia House is warm and welcoming to all.

William Walker Scott married Cora Francis in the late 1800's at Fort Monroe on Old Point Comfort, Hampton, Va. William served on the Chesapeake Bay as a harbor pilot for forty-five years before retiring in 1928. He became notable for his chain of theaters on the Peninsula.

The Scotts were a family of note in Hampton and this house was a showcase for their accumulated wealth and lifestyle.

During their time, the wealth and social status the family achieved was visibly demonstrated in their home. This home is an excellent example of late Victorian, Queen Anne architecture.

William Scott died in 1933 and Cora remained in the home until her death in 1950. After her passing, the Magnolia House was subdivided into five apartments with few changes to the building. The house accommodated tenants from 1950 to 1997 until John and Karen Glass bought the property.

The Glasses renovated the common areas to its original splendor and opened a restaurant/tea room and antique business. They were responsible for placing the Magnolia House on the National Register of Historic Places for its beautiful Queen Anne style architecture. Their business flourished until 2004, when The Blairs purchased the Magnolia House for their love of this home's beautiful architecture.

They are the first owners to actually live in the house for over fifty years and they have brought the Magnolia House back to its original purpose as a comfortable home. All guests are welcome!
