Winterham Plantation
Winterham is located in historic Amelia County, VA, approximately 35 miles Southwest of Richmond. The home is a recently restored Italianate antebellum mansion, built circa 1855, by John Garland Jefferson, a cousin of Thomas Jefferson, whose architectural influence is apparent throughout the house.
Winterham elegantly maintains its historic appeal while offering many modern amenities, including Internet access, filtered water, cable TV and central heat and air conditioning. It is a Virginia Landmark Property and on the National Register of Historic Places.
Here at Winterham Plantation, we take pride in going beyond what you expect in a B&B. Every guest room has a modern private bath, comfortable bed, and concealed cable TV.
In our second floor rooms, you can relax in the warmth of a remote-controlled gas fire, or by a window with a view that will make you breathe deeply and slowly, in spite of yourself. Our family-friendly suite offers two bedrooms, a sitting/dining room, laundry room/ kitchenette, and separate entrance with verandah.
Every guest at Winterham Plantation B&B awakes to a full country breakfast, with all the extras that make you feel like a special guest.
The manor house overlooks a 14 acre lake, nursery plantings reminiscent of a botanical garden, pastures, barns and a pine forest. Massive oaks adorn the lawns, and there are six porches and verandahs to relax on and take in the breathtaking views.
Located at the epicenter of Lee's Retreat Route from Petersburg to Appomattox, Winterham is the perfect headquarters for Civil War Tours, and it served as a Confederate hospital at the end of the conflict.
Enjoy the many antique shops nearby. If you are looking for activities beyond strolling the grounds or simple relaxation, we will be happy to provide information on area attractions, such as the Richmond Metro Zoo, The Morefield Gem Mine, one of the biggest Bluegrass Festivals in Virginia and Sailor's Creek Battlefield Park, site of the last major battle of the War Between the States, the prelude to surrender at Appomattox, just an hour away. The Museum of the Civil War Soldier and the Battlefield Park in Petersburg lie 50 minutes away, as do the Whitehouse and Museum of the Confederacy and other Civil war sites in Richmond.
