“I would not wish any companion in the world but you” (William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.) Perhaps your significant other is a fan of the Bard, and while a trip to Shakespeare’s original Blackfriars Theater in England may be an improbable journey for you, we’ve got the next best thing—the world’s only recreation of the Blackfriars, located in Staunton, VA.  Belle Hearth Bed and Breakfast offers a Shakespearean Romantic Night at their inn, which not only includes two tickets to a performance at the Blackfriars Playhouse, but also your choice of either flowers, wine, or a box of chocolates. (This would also make a great opportunity for a proposal. After all, who does romance better than Shakespeare?)

Weddings also happen to be a bed and breakfast specialty. Whether you’re looking for a small, intimate setting or a fast but elegant elopement, our inns are at the ready. Bring your future spouse and up to 20 guests to Magnolia House Inn’s Wedding Chapel for a complete nuptial ceremony. Innkeepers Joyce and Lankford Blair are interfaith wedding ministers who also provide elopements, vow renewals, and commitment ceremonies. Take some of the stress out of your special day with the help of our innkeepers.

Curl Up in a Cozy Virginia Cottage

Monday, November 18th, 2013

There is a chill in the air that will soon turn frigid, leaving many to wish that they could hibernate with the bears. Sadly though, life does not leave enough time for hibernation, which means that we have to weather the cold in other ways. One such particularly pleasant way to fight the chill is by means of a cozy Inn Virginia cottage, nestled in the warmth of a soft, queen-sized bed, sipping a cup of cocoa by a fireplace, and wrapping up in a fuzzy robe.

Soak away the seasonal frost in the bubbling Jacuzzi waters one of the Cottages at Chesley Creek Farm in Dyke, Virginia. These cottages—Creek House, Pines, Ridge, and Laurelwood—offer forested views, secluded romance, and quiet warmth that promises unperturbed relaxation.

Besides the manor house of Middleton Inn in Washington, VA, the establishment also provides both a cozy cottage and a cabin for its guests. With a historic charm that dates back to the 1800s, Middleton Inn’s cottage and cabin displays pastoral elegance the assurance of solitude.

And speaking of wood walls, the frame of Sugar Tree Inn in Vesuvius, Virginia is comprised of 175-year old logs, reused from historic buildings in the Shenandoah Valley. Cuddle up next to a wood-burning fireplace and enjoy a brief respite from the “real world.”

New owners of Prospect Hill Plantation Inn are excited for their new adventure

Prospect Hill Plantation Inn

The Historic Manor sites on 40-acres of land

Prospect Hill Plantation is the newest establishment to pass the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia’s property inspection (BBAV). Prospect Hill, set outside historic Charlottesville, VA was originally an 18th century plantation. It is now owned by Dr. Bobby and Paula Findley, who bought the Plantation in the search for a new and exciting lifestyle to follow Dr. Findley’s 25 year long career in chiropractic healthcare. The property itself includes 40-acres of land as well as the historic Manor House, which boasts eleven guest rooms and cottages complete with modern amenities. Prospect Hill prides itself on its vast history, as another one of the guest rooms is the “original cabin, built in 1699, is still used for housing overnight guests… some 314 years later” according to owner Dr. Frindley.

When asked why membership with the BBAV was important, Dr. Findley stated “All inns are unique in their own way and offer a compelling experience to their guest… what separates one inn from another, though, is the level of quality… both in the experience and in terms of cleanliness. Being inspected simply helps us stress that we value our guests’ experience over everything else.”

Aside from offering unique guest rooms and a lavish setting by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Prospect Hill Plantation also offers a wonderful culinary experience in the form of a 4 course prix-fixe dinner for it’s guests and members of the Charlottesville community.

Dr. Findley explains that his favorite aspect of being a bed and breakfast owner is the opportunity to meet the interesting guests that are constantly staying at Prospect Hill. For the future, Dr. Findley notes that he hopes to “restore Prospect Hill to its former glory as one of the premier dining and lodging destinations in central Virginia!”

BBAV President Heidi Lanford is extremely happy about Prospect Hill’s addition to the Association. When asked about her thoughts regarding Prospect Hill, Lanford explained “it is so wonderful to have such a historic, and beautiful property pass our property inspection. Prospect Hill is another great example of the impressive establishments that are associated with BBAV.”

Fun and Games at Meadowbrook Farm Bed and Breakfast

Friday, May 10th, 2013

Meadowbrook Farm in Suffolk, VAMeadowbrook Farm Bed and Breakfast has passed the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia (BBAV) inspection and now joins the other 160 fantastic bed and breakfasts in the state of Virginia to have passed this inspection.
Originally a 200 acre livestock and dairy farm, Allen & Debbie Bryant bought their thirty acre parcel of property in Suffolk, VA 16 years ago to fulfill a long standing dream of running a bed and breakfast after retirement. The current main house replaced the original farm house in 1948.  The cottage and other outbuildings were part of the original farm.

When asked about her favorite part of owning a bed and breakfast, Debbie responded, “Having spent 35+ years as professional engineers, our retirement goal was to do something completely different and own/operate a B&B.  However, you would be surprised at the number of opportunities there are to apply engineering principles to everyday operations of a B&B.  We both enjoy providing outstanding hospitality to our guests, from our beautiful country setting, our wonderfully appointed rooms, our delicious gourmet breakfasts, and other amenities not found in traditional hotels.”

Meadowbrook Farm Game Room

Along with a gourmet breakfast and a wonderful place to stay, Meadowbrook Farm also has a “game room” with a pool table, TVs and other games. Guests can spend hours laughing and having fun with family and friends in this mid-1800’s log style grain storage building that is now converted to a game room.

It is no surprise that the president of BBAV, Heidi Lanford, is also excited about Meadowbrook Farm Bed and Breakfast’s new member: “Being a member of BBAV is a guarantee to customers that you meet and exceed the expectations of a standard B&B, and Meadowbrook Farm B&B is no exception,” added Lanford.

Experience the feeling of an earlier time with modern amenities

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

The Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia (BBAV) is pleased to announce Goodstone Inn and Restaurant has become a new member. BBAV President, Heidi Lanford, states, “Inspected properties of BBAV act with integrity and professionalism in all their business practices. We welcome Goodstone Inn and Restaurant as they have exhibited the standards that we request from all our members.”

The eighteen room inn is situated on 265 acres in six separate restored residences and is located in the heart of horse and wine country in Virginia and has been welcoming guest since 1998. “I love talking and interacting with our guests. My main goal is to give the absolute best customer service I can and elevate the level of service presented by my staff. My first hotel I worked at had a sign ‘the guest is our reason for being.’ This is something I have taken with me and promote to my staff.”  Innkeeper, Matt Daubenspeck, affectionately states,  “Without the guest, there is no us.  Without exceptional guest service, there is no guest.”

With mountain views, rolling acres of pastures and the beauty of the historic buildings, Goodstone Inn provides guests with the opportunity to experience the feeling of an earlier time with modern amenities.  It is also a favorite of former first daughter, new mother and NBC reporter Jenna Bush Hager.

Loving and Running a Virginia B&B Go Hand in Hand

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

Bay Haven Inn of Cape Charles has officially been inspected and approved by the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia (BBAV). Heidi Lanford, BBAV President, adds, “As members of BBAV, innkeepers strive to provide the highest quality experience to guests. Because the Bay Haven Inn has taken the time to go through our inspection and obtain all the licenses, certificates and permits, it goes to show dedication to operate their B&B as a legitimate business.”

The owners, Tammy and Jim Holloway, most recently from northern Virginia, escaped the rat race of the nation’s capital to create a “haven” on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.  They have always believed that B&Bs were a romantic experience, and as eHarmony’s Virginia Couple of the Year 2006, they are no strangers to romance. The couple reminisces about how they fell in love at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington D.C. “In fact it was at this time of year when I packed a picnic for us to enjoy as we took in the magical beauty of the blossoms surrounding the tidal basin,” said Jim. He reflects on how he introduced his chocolate ganache sauce to Tammy through the triple chocolate brownies he baked for the picnic that spring day. Now a guest favorite at the Bay Haven Inn of Cape Charles, the infamous chocolate ganache is the delectable topping to their Peanut Butter Banana Waffles.

The B&B is housed in the historical Wilson House in Cape Charles, built in 1906, and was restored and transformed into a bed and breakfast in 1995. The Holloways bought the inn in 2011 and continue with restoration and preservation of the historic home. Opening their B&B at the end of 2012, the Holloways have truly enjoyed running the business, fulfilling the need for a romantic haven to escape busy life. “Earning the BBAV seal of approval was an important step in the process of opening a B&B, passing the inspection is seal of approval that says we have met the quality standards developed by our peers in the industry,” said Tammy. “It says to our future guests that you have been inspected by an objective person and have met the high standards of Virginia B&Bs.”

Beliveau Bridalty: The Romance of Dell and Allison

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

Bed & Breakfasts are catalysts of romance, housing a vast number of proposals and engagements, weddings, anniversaries, and couples’ getaways. This romance, of course, is not limited to the guests who find themselves at the inns, but also includes the employees who work there. One such employee is Dell Peters, the catering manager at Beliveau Estate in Blacksburg, VA.

Just this past November, Dell and the love of his life Allison were married at Beliveau Estate after dating for two and a half years. When asked about his relationship and his proposal, Dell laughed and said, “I told a friend once that if a woman brought me a pot of coffee while I was working a wedding, I’d have to marry her. Soon after we started dating, Allison brought me a pot of coffee during a wedding, so that was that!”

On a chilly November Saturday in 2012, Dell and Allison said their “I do’s” at Beliveau Estate. (And Dell proved his excellence as a catering manager by preparing the food for his own wedding!) “I am a lucky, lucky man,” Dell remarked. “The fact that she said yes is just amazing.”

Beliveau Estate was voted by Virginia Living Magazine as one of the Top Wedding Venues in Southwest Virginia, and it offers a picturesque scene for his ceremony and an elegant Great Hall for your reception. If you are interested in staying at Beliveau, give them a call at 540-961-0505 or email them at Info@beliveauestate.com.

Congratulations to Dell and Allison!
