Experience Fourth of July with InnVirginia

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015

Freedom’s natal day is here.
Fire the guns and shout for freedom,
See the flag above unfurled!
Hail the stars and stripes forever,
Dearest flag in all the world.
~Florence A. Jones

It’s no doubt that the Fourth of July is a favorite holiday among Americans, not only because it celebrates our rich history and our independence as a nation, but also because it always includes a number of festive activities—cookouts, barbecues, parades, and of course, fireworks.

  1. Blacksburg, VA: Wave your flags at a downtown Blacksburg parade from 2:00pm – 3:00pm. Then don’t miss a FREE movie (“The Lorax”) at The Lyric Theatre. The evening will provide live music and then culminating is a fantastic fireworks display, which starts at 9:30. InnVirginia Lodging: The Oaks Victorian Inn, Beliveau Estate, Clay Corner Inn.
  2. Virginia Beach: With a name like “Stars & Stripes Explosion,” you know that this festival will be bringing the patriotism! This celebration includes tribute bands, Broadway showtunes, folk music and more, all climaxing with oceanfront fireworks. InnVirginia Lodging: Beach Spa Bed & Breakfast, Page House Inn, Barclay Cottage Bed & Breakfast.
  3. Charlottesville: Not only does Monticello’s Fourth of July celebration take place at the home of Thomas Jefferson, it also includes an annual Naturalization Ceremony to welcome new US citizens from around the world. (Tickets to this events are free but are claimed quickly and early, so be sure to reserve yours now!) InnVirginia Lodging: Cedar Hill Cottage, Inn at Monticello, Dinsmore House Inn.
  4. Lexington: Have you ever celebrated Independence Day with a balloon rally? Well, now’s your chance! Held on the grounds of the Virginia Military Institute, you can enjoy everything from piloted or tethered balloon rides, food vendors, an antique car show, and live music. But one day of celebration isn’t enough for Lexington, VA; these festivities take place July 2-5. InnVirgina Lodging: House Mountain Inn, Herring Hall Bed & Breakfast, Brierley Hill B&B.
