The Virginia Festival of the Book, 2012

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

“Books are the perfect entertainment: no commercials, no batteries, hours of enjoyment for each dollar spent. What I wonder is why everybody doesn’t carry a book around for those inevitable dead spots in life.” ― Stephen King

Although we are in an age of technology, books still retain their inherent esteem (though they can now be read via technological devices, common ground between tradition and innovation). Furthermore, good writers are still highly celebrated, and Virginia is one of those places that not only spends time celebrating authors, but also puts aside five whole days to do so. The Virginia Festival of the Book offers seminars, presentations, meet-and-greets, and a myriad of other events in order “to bring together writers and readers and to promote and celebrate books, reading, literacy, and literary culture” (

With the exception of the luncheons, the Authors’ reception, the Leadership Breakfast, and specific theatre and musical performances, all events at this festival are free and require no tickets or registration. Click here for the festival’s page of frequently asked questions.

Now, you may be asking yourself, “Where will I stay during this five-day festival?” Since you are reading a blog entry for the Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia, surely you must know the answer to your question.
