Shop the Past at Virginia Antique Malls

Saturday, December 28th, 2013

Shopping for antiques is a bit like going on a treasure hunt. You arrive at your chosen destination, sift through the wares of the past, and hope to stumble upon a vintage piece that suits your needs. Virginia boasts a large number of antique malls, vintage stores, and collectibles shops, each of which lies near an Inn Virginia bed & breakfast to complete your antiquing adventure:

The Factory Antique Mall in Verona, VA is “one of the largest antique malls in America.” Whether you’re on the hunt for books, dolls, glassware, or jewelry, you’ll find it and more at the Factory Antique Mall. This Mall also happens to have a Country Café within its walls for those who need a bite to eat while shopping. (Nearby Inn Virginia lodging includes Bridgewater Inn and Cottage, Montclair Bed and Breakfast,

Antiques and More of Appomattox displays a host of products with everything from candles to toys to furniture. With its location in historic downtown Appomattox, Virginia, you’ll feel as though you’re browsing through history. (Nearby Inn Virginia lodging includes Babcock House and Carriage House Inn B&B.)

Williamsburg Antique Mall in Colonial Williamsburg is a charming “niche in the antique community.” Search through historic clocks, hard-crafted furniture, and individual booths set up by specific antique dealers. As with Verona’s antique mall, this one also offers an eatery, La Petite Tea Room, complete with soup, sandwiches, and desserts. (Nearby Inn Virginia lodging includes Marl Inn B&B, Magnolia Manor, and York River Inn B&B.)

“Entering the Middleburg Antique Emporium is like stepping into a tastefully decorated Victorian home.” This establishment boasts around 45 antique dealers with both American and European wares for your purchase—sterling flatware, Brass Fireplace Accessories, china, porcelain, and more. (Nearby Inn Virginia lodging includes the Briar Patch B&B Inn, Berryville Inn, and Goodstone Inn.)

Girlfriend Getaways at Virginia B&Bs

Friday, June 21st, 2013

Between work, school, children, significant others, and general life responsibilities, you may be surprised to realize how much time has passed since you’ve seen your girlfriends. If you feel the need for a quick vacation along with a twinge of nostalgia for your schoolgirl slumber parties, then you may need a girlfriend getaway at an InnVirginia member:

Middleburg Country Inn offers quiet, small-town relaxation for your group of girlfriends. Innkeepers  JoAnn and Kevin Hazard call their inn the “ultimate escape from everyday life,” a description that is close to perfect for you ladies who are looking for rest, relaxation, and a renewal of friendship.  Lodging at Middleburg also means that you’ll be within close distance of some excellent girls’ day out activities—horseback riding, hot air balloons, vineyards and wineries.

If you’re looking for an Eastern Shore retreat, then Kris and Lisa LaMontagne invite you to the Inn at Onancock, which they describe as “a short drive to far away.” One particular favorite at the Inn at Onancock is Wine-Down hour, a good time to relax, socialize, and taste an array of wines from around the world. Really, can it get any better than a group of close friends, a beautiful view and a glass of wine?

The Inn at 400 West High provides lodging in Charlottesville, a destination of award-winning wineries, theatrical productions, and eclectic shopping. Innkeeper Carolyn Polson McGee is always ready and willing to offer her inn for a ladies’ getaway: “I LOVE having an Inn full of girlfriends! The laughter and love shared is always memorable for all! I have a sign that always goes up that says ‘What happens with the girlfriends, stays with the girlfriends!’”

Experience the feeling of an earlier time with modern amenities

Thursday, April 18th, 2013

The Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia (BBAV) is pleased to announce Goodstone Inn and Restaurant has become a new member. BBAV President, Heidi Lanford, states, “Inspected properties of BBAV act with integrity and professionalism in all their business practices. We welcome Goodstone Inn and Restaurant as they have exhibited the standards that we request from all our members.”

The eighteen room inn is situated on 265 acres in six separate restored residences and is located in the heart of horse and wine country in Virginia and has been welcoming guest since 1998. “I love talking and interacting with our guests. My main goal is to give the absolute best customer service I can and elevate the level of service presented by my staff. My first hotel I worked at had a sign ‘the guest is our reason for being.’ This is something I have taken with me and promote to my staff.”  Innkeeper, Matt Daubenspeck, affectionately states,  “Without the guest, there is no us.  Without exceptional guest service, there is no guest.”

With mountain views, rolling acres of pastures and the beauty of the historic buildings, Goodstone Inn provides guests with the opportunity to experience the feeling of an earlier time with modern amenities.  It is also a favorite of former first daughter, new mother and NBC reporter Jenna Bush Hager.
