Celebrate Virginia Wine Month at a Bed and Breakfast

Sunday, October 6th, 2013

Imagine yourself sitting on the outdoor patio of a Virginia winery, immersed in the surrounding autumn colors and the serene, vineyard scenery. You sip a glass of your favorite wine while your significant other drinks his or hers alongside you. Once you’ve indulged in your fill of the winery experience, picture yourself returning to the lavish comfort of a bed and breakfast. Luckily for you, this imagined scenario can easily become a reality, and since October is Virginia Wine Month, it’s is the perfect excuse to escape and enjoy the establishments of innkeepers and vintners alike.

Jefferson Vineyards in Charlottesville is the product of its namesake, Thomas Jefferson. The vineyards were first planted in 1774 but were eventually destroyed by the Civil War. Replanting began in 1981, and now the winery produces 6,000 to 8,000 cases of wine every year. Jefferson’s wine is fully Virginian, and the majority of the fruit ingredients are not only grown onsite, but were also hand-selected by Thomas Jefferson himself. More Tiffany – Statewide

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will host the only U.S. Exhibition of Tiffany: Color and Light, celebrating the work of one of America’s greatest artists and designers, Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933). The exhibition will run from May 29 to August 15 in Richmond, Virginia.

For Tiffany fans, an exploration of works by the master of glass doesn’t have to end with a visit to Tiffany: Color and Light.  For the more adventurous, you can see Tiffany’s genius around Virginia.  VMFA has created a statewide tour of Tiffany windows, with detailed information available on the museum’s web site www.vmfa.museum. The tour extends throughout  the Commonwealth and includes 33 sites, which have been organized into four regions.  Downloadable audio with detailed information on selected sites are also available on their web site.

So take a look at the Sampling of Windows and select a bed and breakfast nearby and plan you trip through the Commonwealth over the next several months. Be sure to check the Bed and Breakfast Associations web site for Packages Specials. (more…)
