Charlottesville is known as “Jefferson Country,” and rightfully so, as Thomas Jefferson’s famous home Monticello and his University of Virginia, are located here. Hundreds of thousands of visitors flock to Monticello  and UVA each year, but there’s so much more to Charlottesville than Mr. Jefferson’s impact.

For starters, Charlottesville is at the center of Virginia’s burgeoning wine industry.  The 22 vineyards that comprise the Monticello Wine Trail surround the city of Charlottesville, and offer wine enthusiast the opportunity to tour, taste and soak in the natural beauty of the Virginia countryside. In addition, the recently added Brew Ridge Trail offers a bevy of beers to sample at several scenic microbreweries. 

For those seeking epicurean delights and nightlife, Charlottesville boasts dozens of restaurants on the historic Downtown Mall. Enjoy outdoor dining on the pedestrian friendly Main Street walk then take in a concert at the Charlottesville Pavillion, John Paul Jones Arena or Paramount Theater.

Throughout the year Charlottesville hosts a variety of festivals, such as the Festival of the Book, the Virginia Film Festival and Garden Week. Even when there’s not a festival, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities. Biking, hiking, running, kayaking, fishing and golfing are all readily accessible near Charlottesville. For the more relaxed traveler, there are wonderful leisure activities like the Farmer’s Market, apple picking and nature trails nearby.
