Babcock House
If charm and hospitality rank high on your vacation requirements, pay a visit to The Babcock House located in the heart of Appomattox. Just minutes from the Appomattox Courthouse National Historic Park.
It was here that General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to General Grant thus ending the civil war. The park is the original site of the Village of Appomattox and all of the buildings have been restored to the 1865 surrender date.
Also with a short drive you can be at Red Hill:Patrick Henry Shrine, Fort Early, Monticello and Poplar Forest.
To further compliment you stay at The Babcock House you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch or an elegant candlelight dinner. Our evening menu includes such items as Beef Tenderloin with Mint Cilantro Chutney, Roast Duck, Salmon with 5 Spice Lime Butter and other house specialties. Items served change weekly with emphasis on fresh locally grown products. An excellent selection of beer and wines are available.
If you are planning on taking a day trip we can provide you with a box lunch or a gourmet picnic basket. For the ultimate dining experience, this is the place to be.
This restored, turn of the century inn, dates back to 1884. At one time The Babcock House was the boyhood home of nationally known author, Dr. Havilah Babcock. The Inn features five bedrooms and one suite, all furnished with period antiques.
You will truly feel you have taken a step back in time as you enter The Babcock House. All rooms have private baths, coffee makers, and cable television. Our Inn has central air conditioning to insure your comfort.
Relax in the evening on one of our verandas with the ceiling fans on and a good book in hand.
