Middleton Inn
Welcome to Middleton Inn, one of Virginia's most elegant country estates. It is located in the historic village of "Little" Washington, Va., 67 miles west of Washington, D.C., and within walking distance of the restaurant at The Inn at Little Washington.
Middleton has seven accommodations: four rooms in the manor house, a romantic cottage for two, and an historic cabin, the original house on the estate, circa 1750, which has two bedrooms and three fireplaces. In fact, all of the accommodations at Middleton have working fireplaces in the rooms.
This 1840 Historic Virginia Landmark sits on a knoll amid acres of scenic pasture, capturing the views of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the horses in the inn's paddocks.
The award-winning inn has received the prestigious Four Diamond Award from AAA for the past 10 years for "elegant accommodations" and "excellent service." The inn also has been selected to be a member of a group of distinguished inns of North America, Select Registry.
We invite you to sample one of our scrumptious breakfasts and our famous English scones.
Middleton Inn's four bedrooms in the manor house, all have working fireplaces and private marble baths. The Churchill is a federal bedroom with a queen-size sleigh bed. The bed is a reproduction of one that was in Winston Churchill's family home, Chartwell, in England. This room is one of two which has views of the mountains, the other being the Ascot Room. Each room is furnished with antiques or reproductions.
Breakfast is served in the rooms upon request or in the inn's dining room.
The fifth accommodation at Middleton is the romantic guest cottage which also was built in 1840 and served back then as the servants' quarters on the estate. It is a special, very private place for those planning an engagement, honeymoon, anniversary or birthday. It has two stories. There is an intimate living room with a working fireplace and a bedroom above with a queen-size sleigh bed. The bathroom has a Jacuzzi for two looking out at the mountains. Breakfast is served in the cottage on an antique silver tray or in the main dining room.
The historic cabin was built around the time George Washington surveyed the town of Washington and it is alleged he drank from the well on the property.
The cabin has been exquisitely renovated while keeping its historic integrity. There is a bedroom with a fireplace and private bath on the first floor and also on the second floor.
There also is a small, gourmet kitchen, and a living room with a fireplace. The front porch offers spectacular views of the mountains as well as flower gardens. The back gardens feature ancient pine trees and serenity.
