Sleepy Hollow Farm B & B
It is not certain who built the first dwelling in the hollow or when. The foundation and construction of the central dining room and bedroom above suggest a late 18th century structure.
A two story - three room clapboard house was built in front of the earlier building in the 1850's. Later a shed kitchen was added. In the 1940's two side rooms were added and the entire house was bricked over.
Generations of families have lived in the simple farmhouse. A sad ghost from the Civil War days used to appear until the house was blessed. A two- story addition was added to the small slave cabin now called the Chestnut Cottage.
The warmth and hospitality of Sleepy Hollow reflect Virginia tradition and the reputation of James and Dolley Madison's Orange County. Terraces, porches, flower and herb gardens and cozy rooms provide opportunities to relax in a family atmosphere.
Each morning a delicious country breakfast is served in the sunny dining room in the main house. Homemade goodies are always available on the sideboard in the central dining room.
Folks that come and stay with us enjoy the " hollow ". A genuine welcome truly makes for a memorable visit.
Wildlife have and continue to trod through; including families of turkeys, white-tail deer, a large black bear, and even a bobcat, which sadly made its resting place in the barn.
During the summer months, Hummingbirds entertain our guests during meal time, and a wide variety of other species of birds visit year round.
