Marion Virginia, the county seat for Smyth County, is a delightful town just off Interstate 81 and nestled in the highlands of Southwest Virginia. It is as famous for its spectacular outdoor recreation as it is for the most famous product, Mountain Dew. Marion is the gateway to both Hungry Mother State Park and the highest peak in Virginia, Mount Rogers.
Marion is proud to be the home of historic The Lincoln Theater, one of the three existing Art Deco Mayan Revival theaters in America. The Lincoln Theater features performing arts events year round as well as the concert series Song of the Mountain.
Song of the Mountain showcases the best talents in bluegrass and old time country musicians from the heart of the region where it all began. The concerts are held monthly at The Lincoln Theater and many shows are videotaped for the award winning television series, which can be viewed on public television affiliates throughout the country.
Hungry Mother State Park is 5 miles from the center of town and is noted for its woodland and lake. The park is one if the six original Civilian Conservation Parks (CCC) that open in 1936. The park consists of a many acre lake with boating, canoeing, fishing and swimming areas. Many beautiful hiking trails surround the lake.See Inns in and near Marion: Downtown | 1 Mile | 5 Miles | 15 Miles | 25 Miles | 50 Miles
