Presidents from Virginia
Virginia has been called the Mother of Presidents. Eight U.S. Presidents were born in Virginia: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson.
It's possible to visit and tour the birthplace of most of these men, and in some cases their family homes and graves. Build an itinerary around the lives of famous Virginians, staying at Virginia Bed and Breakfasts along the way. Travel from George Washington's Mount Vernon, in Northern Virginia, to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison's Montpelier, and James Monroe's Ash Lawn-Highland, all in Central Virginia; and the history does not end there.
Virginia Patriots
In addition to American presidents, Virginia has been home to many famous patriots. There was Patrick Henry, Founding Father, Virginia Governor, and radical & fiery orator. There was John Paul Jones, who fearlessly brought the American Revolution to the shores of Britain. There was U.S. Revolutionary officer Henry "Light-Horse Harry" Lee, who was ninth Governor of Virginia, and his son, Confederate General Robert E. Lee. In short, the list goes on and on.
